Hi! I’m Baz,
A mess, nerd, and aspiring cryptid.
I live on a farm in Washington state with some friends, 2 cats, 2 dogs, and an obscene amount of chickens. I'm learning about land, gardening, and sustainability in living, both as a person with material needs and a person with emotional needs.
I'm also a doctoral student studying critical special education with a focus on supporting special education teachers in mathematics in ways aligned with disability justice. I'm passionate about teacher education and love engaging in mathematics learning and thinking with teachers and students in a variety of humanizing and embodied ways that push back on the traditional culture of mathematics learning that caused a lot of us to experience trauma in mathematics spaces.
Through all of this, I'm a white, dis/abled, Queer, non-binary trans person who uses all the pronouns (they/he/she+), and is navigating grief, joy, religious trauma, lost family, chosen family, and what a justice oriented anti-capitalist politic looks like in my context. This is a space where I unpack my experiences, thoughts, feelings, and ideas around everything from academic articles to gardening, woodwork to therapy. This is a space for me.
